Information for Patients Using the Cancer Centre Retail Pharmacy (CCRP)

The steps below will guide you in getting your prescription drugs for cancer treatment. Follow these steps every time you are getting a prescription filled at Grand River Regional Cancer Centre’s Cancer Centre Retail Pharmacy (CCRP).

What Might Delay Your Prescription?

Our prescription drugs might take a little longer than usual if:

  • The pharmacist needs to check your insurance details
  • Special funding for your drug(s) is needed
  • The oncologist’s order for your drugs is waiting to be checked over by the clinic pharmacist (e.g. if they are waiting for your bloodwork results)
  • The CCRP pharmacist needs extra time to get your drugs ready
  • Your drugs are not in stock, or need to be ordered
  • There are other patients ahead of you

Transferring to A Local Pharmacy

You would like to use a pharmacy that is closer to you:

  • Talk to the CCRP team to see if this is the best plan for your drugs.
  • You will need to call your local pharmacy to start the transfer of your prescription drugs.
  • Wait at least 24 hours after seeing your Oncologist before asking your local pharmacy to transfer prescriptions. This gives the CCRP time to get your prescriptions from your Oncologist, into the pharmacy system, and ready to transfer.
  • Note that some local pharmacies might not have access to certain cancer drugs or treatments. Also, they may not know of (or be familiar with) special drug coverage options
