The Waterloo Wellington Coordinated Colonoscopy Access Program (WWCCAP) facilitates timely access to colonoscopy for asymptomatic average risk patients between the ages of 50-74 that have a FIT positive result.

What is the referral process for a patient with a FIT positive result?

  1. FIT positive result received by healthcare provider (HCP)
  2. HCP sends referral one of two ways:
    1. Ocean eReferral under Waterloo Wellington Coordinated Colonoscopy Access Program, or
    2. Fax form located here: WWCCAP Referral Form
  3. When the WWCCAP staff receive the referral, the referral form is reviewed for eligibility and completeness. In addition, if the patient does not have significant comorbidities, a colonoscopy procedure is booked directly at one of the next available participating hospitals with an endoscopist in the region. Patients who are not eligible for direct-to-procedure colonoscopy will be referred to an endoscopist for consultation.
  4. The WWCCAP staff notifies the patient and the referrer of the appointment.

How long does the process take?

We have significantly improved our wait times with this central referral program in place. From receiving the referral by the WWCCAP to the actual patient’s procedure, the WWCCAP continues to meet and exceed the provincial target of 8 weeks (56 days).

We are proud of consistently being in the top tier across the province due to our program that partners with hospital sites in Waterloo Wellington region.
