Palliative care at Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN) provides a range of services for patients and their families — from help managing pain and symptoms through to end of life care.

Palliative care can be given along with other treatments or during the final stages of life. You and your family play an important role in planning your care. Our team is here to help you feel comfortable and supported every step of the way.

Palliative care can be provided in many settings. There may be a time when you and your family need the support of staying in our palliative unit.

The palliative unit is a supportive space designed with patients’ and families’ well-being in mind. Along with private and shared rooms, the unit also has a dining room, and quiet spaces that can be used by families. These spaces are here to create a positive experience for you and your loved ones and to help you feel at ease.

Our team includes doctors, nurses, social workers, spiritual care providers, recreational therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and volunteers. They work together to meet each person’s unique needs and may support you by:

  • helping manage pain and symptoms
  • offering emotional and spiritual support
  • making sure care matches your values and wishes
  • ensuring your journey is as comfortable as possible
