It is essential that the communities we serve see themselves represented in the new hospital, which is why community engagement is a key foundation to planning WRHN’s redevelopment work. Raising awareness and knowledge about the project across Waterloo Region communities continues to be a priority for the Redevelopment Team.
The Redevelopment Team is present at WRHN-organized and invited community events across the Region of Waterloo, including WRHN hosted community town halls, and other community events, such as the Multicultural Festival and Rural Senior Fairs.
Redevelopment has also supported speaking engagements for the WRHN Foundation, as well as for private companies and local interest groups, building relationships with the Lakeshore South Neighbourhood Association

In alignment with WRHN’s commitment to continue to foster meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities (the term Indigenous refers to First Nations, Inuit, Metis and non-status Peoples in Canada), the team worked with a regional Indigenous Advisory Circle (IAC), the WRHN Indigenous Partnership Circle (IPC), Six Nations of the Grand River, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Haudenosaunee Confederacy Chiefs Council and the Office of Indigenous Relations, University of Waterloo to seek input on facility design and the Environmental Enhancements Project.
In addition, an engagement framework has been developed with input from Two Row Architect (an Indigenous owned architectural firm) and the Chair of the IAC to guide this work throughout the life cycle of redevelopment projects.
