Each person’s stroke journey is different, and our team at Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN) is here to support you through every step.

A stroke happens when blood flow to the brain is blocked or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts. It can affect movement, speech, memory, and other body functions.

Stroke is always a medical emergency. Getting help quickly can make a big difference. Learn the signs of a stroke and why acting FAST matters.

If you think you or a loved one is having a stroke, call 911. Paramedics are trained to bring you to the right emergency department, quickly and safely.

WRHN is one of three District Stroke Centres in the Central South Ontario Region. We support stroke care for Waterloo Wellington and offer:

  • emergency care
  • care in the hospital in our stroke units
  • therapy and follow-up care at our stroke outpatient clinics

Our team of doctors, nurses, and therapists have special training in stroke care. They are here to care for you and help you recover when you come to WRHN.
