Not all health concerns need emergency care. You can also book a virtual visit or go to an urgent care clinic for these concerns. For life-threatening symptoms, call 911 or go to the nearest hospital.

The critical and intensive care teams at Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN) are here to help you recover.
Critical and intensive care supports people with serious illnesses or injuries who need to stay in the hospital. At WRHN, we have different intensive care units to meet different needs, including ones for heart care. Critical and intensive care are available at both WRHN @ Midtown and WRHN @ Queen’s Blvd.
Our doctors, nurses, and health professionals provide the highest level of care. We also work closely with Emergency, Surgery, and other programs to keep care connected. We are here to answer your questions, share updates, and support you during your hospital stay.

If you have a serious illness or injury, or need close monitoring, you may get care in one of our intensive care units. Each unit is a safe, supportive space. Our skilled care teams are trained to meet different health needs and help you recover.
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) A gives expert care to patients who are seriously ill. It is for people with lung problems or other health issues who need close care. The team uses advanced machines and treatments to support you and help you recover.
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) B cares for patients who are seriously ill but do not need the more advanced care provided in ICU A. Our experienced team supports you by providing skilled, compassionate care.
This unit supports patients after open-heart surgery. Our highly trained team cares for you during the first part of your recovery.

The Coronary Care Unit provides focused, expert heart care. It is for patients with serious heart conditions. This includes people recovering from heart attacks and other urgent heart problems. The team includes doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers with special training in heart care.
Patients in the unit can have up to two visitors at a time. Please also avoid visiting or calling during shift changes. These happen every day from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
